About Lorette
Lorette was founded as a French settlement along the beautiful Seine River – by 1878 Lorette was already appearing on Manitoba maps. Our small town is located in the Rural Municipality of Taché in Manitoba, situated in the south-east part of the province. Provincial Road 207, which is part of the historic Old Dawson Trail, will bring you right into town and can be accessed via the Trans-Canada Highway from the north, PR 206 from the east or PR 405 from the south.
Lorette is the largest community in the R.M. of Taché. According to the 2011 census, the population has grown to 2,361 residents. In the past 10 years its population has nearly doubled. Low taxes and the close proximity to Winnipeg are the two biggest perks for Lorette residents.
There are 3 elementary schools in Lorette. École Lagimodière, Dawson Trail School and École Lorette Immersion. Collège Lorette Collegiate is the village's only high school, offering English and French immersion programs. The high school also serves as the community library. French grade 9-12 students travel to the nearby village of Ile-des-Chênes at École/Collège régional Gabrielle-Roy.
The major employers in the village are the Municipality of Taché, the Seine River School Division, Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine and All Star Concrete.
The historic Roman Catholic church Notre-Dame de Lorette is a community landmark and has been around nearly as long as the town itself. It offers services in French and English. The architect and builder was Auguste Gauthier of Lorette. The task required a great deal of volunteer labour supplied by the community. The interior of the church features walls and ceilings adorned with oil murals by artist L.E. Monty of Montreal. The church is surmounted by three bells, which were poured in Haute-Savoie, France.
There is always something active to do in Lorette, the town features a community complex The Complex Communautaire de Lorette Community Complex (or CCLCC) and holds a hockey rink, a 3 sheet curling rink, meeting rooms and a large hall. The Lorette Golf Course is also a popular attraction and offers a 9 hole course along the peacefull Seine River.
